How do I install SEOmise Connector Pro?
Short answerOn Settings → Connect your website → Site connector, a WordPress site on the free plugin shows Install Pro with three ways: Over SSH or SFTP (SEOmise does it), Myself (a download with its checksum and the steps for your site) or Send to my developer (an e-mail with the steps and a download link). SEOmise watches the site and carries on the moment Pro runs. It never asks for your WordPress password.
SEOmise Connector Pro goes next to the free SEOmise Connector, which must be installed and connected first. On Settings → Connect your website → Site connector, a WordPress site that runs the free plugin alone shows Install Pro. Choose one of the ways in the panel. A way that cannot work for your site says why.
Over SSH or SFTP
Offered when SSH is set up for your site. Press Install Pro for me (SSH). The SSH terminal signs in to your server for this session only (with SEOmise's own key, a password or a key of yours), uploads Pro to wp-content/plugins/seomise-connector-pro/ and switches it on with WP-CLI (or you press Activate under Plugins when the server has no WP-CLI). Each command is shown before it runs, and Check it works asks your site whether Pro runs. See "How do I connect my website over SSH from SEOmise?" for the sign-in.
Myself
- Press Download SEOmise Connector Pro. Keep the zip as it is. Its SHA-256 checksum is shown next to the button, so you can check the file (
sha256sumon Linux, shasum -a 256on a Mac). - Press Open the upload page of your site: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin in WordPress. Choose the zip and press Install Now.
- Press Activate Plugin.
- Back in SEOmise press I have uploaded it. SEOmise asks your site every few seconds and carries on the moment Pro runs.
With WP-CLI on the server, in the WordPress folder: wp plugin install seomise-connector-pro-<version>.zip --activate after copying the zip there, or wp plugin install <the download address> --activate. With WP-CLI under Myself shows both lines for your site.
Send to my developer
- Press Send to my developer, enter their e-mail address and, if you like, a short note. The address is checked the same way as sign-up addresses.
- They get an e-mail with what to install and why, a download link for this Pro zip only, its checksum, the steps for the WordPress upload page, SFTP and WP-CLI, and a link to a status page.
- The status page needs no sign-in. It shows only Pro found or Not yet: no project, site or address.
- Under the button you see each send: Sent to … on …, whether the link was used, Send again (a new link: the earlier one stops working) and Withdraw link (the download and the status page stop working at once).
- When SEOmise finds Pro on your site, you get a notice (e-mail and the bell).
The download link works only for the Pro zip, for 7 days by default. A project can send up to 5 of these e-mails a day (SEOmise may set other limits). Only people who may manage data can send them, and every send is recorded in the activity log.
After any way
SEOmise asks your site (a signed question, at most every 15 seconds) until it reports Pro, then shows Pro … is running and carries on with what needed Pro, such as an update SEOmise pushes. If Pro has not appeared after 15 minutes (by default), SEOmise keeps checking and opens the other ways again.
Why SEOmise does not use your WordPress password
The approval SEOmise uses to set up the free plugin (an application password) cannot upload a plugin zip in WordPress, and SEOmise never asks for your own WordPress password. So it is SSH, one upload by you, or one upload by your developer.
When it does not appear
- Check that SEOmise Connector Pro is active under Plugins.
- Pro needs the free SEOmise Connector, a version that knows Pro. If WordPress says Pro needs a newer SEOmise Connector, update the free plugin first.
- Pro tells SEOmise when it is switched on. If your site cannot reach SEOmise, the twice-daily check-in reports it later.
