How does the free audit of up to 100 pages work?

Short answerOn the free SEO audit page, keep "Also check up to 100 pages of the site" ticked (or press "Check the whole site, free" on a finished free audit). SEOmise reads up to 100 pages of the same site without an account and shows how many pages have each issue, the most important first, with a few of them by address. "Start free with <your site>" starts sign-up with the site filled in.

Starting it

  • On Free SEO audit (on our website), enter your address. The box Also check up to 100 pages of the site, free is ticked; untick it to check one page only.
  • On a finished free audit you ran yourself, press Check the whole site, free.

No account is needed. You can run one a day; SEOmise can change the number. Opening an audit you already have is free.

What it reads

SEOmise starts at the home page and follows the links to other pages of the same site (its www. twin counts as the same site), a few pages at a time:

  • up to 100 pages, up to five clicks from the home page, and for up to ten minutes (each is a setting SEOmise can change);
  • it follows your robots.txt for SEOmise's crawler, including its crawl delay;
  • it never reads another site, and files such as pictures, PDFs and scripts are not counted as pages.

While it runs, the bar shows how many pages were checked. You can leave the page: its link keeps working.

What it shows

How many pages have each issue, the most important first, and three of them by address:

  • Pages that do not open (errors 4xx and 5xx, or no answer);
  • No page title, Same title as another page, Title too long;
  • No meta description, Same description as another page;
  • No main heading (H1), More than one main heading, Little text;
  • Hidden from search (noindex), Points search engines elsewhere (a canonical tag naming another address);
  • Pictures without alt text, Links that redirect, Slow to answer.

It also says how many pages have no important issue and how quickly the pages answered.

Then

Start free with opens sign-up with your site filled in. Your project's first scan reads every page (up to your plan's page limit) and lists each fix with the three ways to fix it: do it yourself, with help, or done for you.

Good to know

  • Sites that build their pages with JavaScript can show less text here than in a browser.
  • Anyone with the link of your free audit can see the result. Search engines are told not to list it, and it is deleted after 30 days.
