What happens when SEOmise scans my website?

Short answerSEOmise reads your public pages the way a search engine does, starting at the home page and following your links and sitemap. The scan only reads, so nothing on your site changes, and it works on every platform.

Updated 14 October 2026

What the scan reads

SEOmise starts at your home page. It reads your robots.txt file and your sitemap (the list of pages your site asks search engines to read), then follows the links between your pages, a few at a time.

For each page it notes the title, the description, the headings, the text, the images, the links, any structured data, the language and how quickly your server answered.

The scan only reads. It never changes anything on your website, so it works the same on WordPress, Laravel, Shopify, Wix, a static site or anything else. You do not need a connector for it.

Start, stop or resume a scan

  1. Open Website health → Health overview.
  2. Press Start the first scan, or Scan again for a later one.
  3. Watch the pages appear on Website health → Site map, or leave the page: the scan carries on without you.
  4. Press Stop to pause it, and Resume scan to carry on.

Owners, admins and SEO managers can run scans.

Scans on a schedule

Your plan decides how often SEOmise scans your site again by itself: daily, weekly, monthly, or only when you ask. The Health overview shows the date of the next automatic scan.

Every scan is kept in the history for as long as your plan keeps history, so you can see what changed. The first complete scan (Day 0) and the latest scan are always kept.

Why some pages are not in the scan

  • The page limit. Each scan reads up to your plan's number of pages. The Health overview says when a scan stopped at the limit.
  • robots.txt. Addresses your robots.txt blocks are listed but not read. If robots.txt asks crawlers to wait between pages, SEOmise waits (up to 10 seconds).
  • Files. Images, PDFs, scripts, styles and feeds are not pages, so they are skipped.
  • Text added by JavaScript. SEOmise reads the page your server sends and does not run its scripts. Text that only appears after scripts run is not seen.
  • Very large pages (several megabytes of code) are skipped.
  • Pages nothing links to are found only when they are in your sitemap.
