I got an e-mail asking me to connect my Google account. Is it safe?

Short answerThe e-mail opens the Google connector page for your website. You sign in on Google's own page, choose what to share, and can withdraw it at any time. Nobody asks for your password.

What the e-mail is

Someone who looks after your website (your agency or marketer) asked SEOmise to send it. It names them, your website and what they would like to see. The button opens a private page for your website: the Google connector page. It works for a few days and only once.

What happens on the page

  1. Press Connect. Google's own sign-in page opens: check the address starts with accounts.google.com.
  2. Choose the Google account that manages your Business Profile and your website's Search Console and Analytics, and press Allow.
  3. The page lists what that account has; the ones for your website are ticked. Untick anything you do not want to share and press Share.
  4. You see Connected! and a Done button. That's it.

Search Console and Analytics are shared read only. Your Business Profile is shared only if you tick Also share my Business Profile: Google has one permission for Business Profiles, which allows managing the listing (the same as adding someone as a Manager), and only the locations you tick are used.

Rather not sign in?

Press I'd rather add you as a user or Manager. The page shows the steps to add their Google account yourself, in Search Console, Google Analytics and your Business Profile.

Your password

Nobody needs it and nobody will ask for it: you sign in on Google's own page. Never give your Google password to anyone.

Withdrawing it later

Open your Google account, then Security → Your connections to third-party apps and services, and remove the access. Or ask the sender to disconnect it.
