How do I send the connect steps to my developer?

Short answerOn the Connect step choose Send to my developer, then enter their e-mail address or copy a private link. They open a page without an account with exactly the steps for your platform, the download made for your website and the pairing code. You see when they opened it and when the site connected.

Someone else looks after your website? You do not need to forward files or codes yourself. Send to my developer gives them a private page with the same steps you see, made for your website.

Send the steps

  1. Open the Connect step of your project (adding a website, or the set-up's Connect screen). Under the way SEOmise chose for your platform, pick Send to my developer beside Manually (and SSH terminal, where it is offered).
  2. Enter your developer's e-mail address and, if you like, a short note, then press Send. The address is checked the same way as sign-up addresses, and replies to the e-mail come to you.
  3. Or press Copy a link instead and send the link yourself, in a chat for example. The link is shown once: copy it straight away.

The same panel is under the steps on Settings → Connect your website → Site connector → Install guide, for the platform tab you have open.

What your developer sees

The link opens a page without signing in, with exactly the steps for your site's platform and the way you had chosen:

  • WordPress: the plugin made for your website (it carries a one-time code and connects itself once activated), and where to upload it.
  • Laravel: the connector made for your project, the line that registers it in bootstrap/providers.php, the .env lines with your SEOmise address, the commands that create its tables and check it is loaded, and the pairing command with a pairing code. The code works once, for 30 minutes; when it has run out the page offers Get a new code.
  • PHP, CodeIgniter, Drupal, Joomla: the PHP connector file made for your website and the one line to add.
  • Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, BigCommerce, Magento and the rest: your website's line of code and where it goes on that platform.

The page shows your name and your note, and nothing else of your account. It checks every few seconds whether the site has connected and then says Connected. From then on it hands out nothing more: no downloads and no pairing codes.

Follow it on your screen

Each link is listed under the form: Sent to … or Link copied, when it was made and by whom, and whether it was opened (Opened 2 times, last …), with a View log of each opening, download and pairing code shown (the browser, never the address). Once the site checks in, the link shows Connected and the bar at the bottom of the Connect step turns to Connected by itself.

  • Send again sends a new link to the same address; the earlier one stops working.
  • Revoke stops the link at once: its page, its downloads and its pairing code.

Limits and safety

  • The link works for 7 days by default, unless you revoke it, and stops once the site has connected. SEOmise keeps only a fingerprint of it, so even SEOmise cannot show it again.
  • Only people who may connect the website (owners and roles that manage data and projects) can send it, and never while SEOmise staff view the workspace as you. The first connection of a website follows the same rule as the pairing code: an owner makes it.
  • A link stops working when the person who made it leaves the workspace or loses the right to connect the site.
  • A project can make up to 10 links and send up to 5 of these e-mails a day (SEOmise may set other limits). Every send, copy, revoke, first opening and download is in the activity log.
  • While SEOmise has this switched off it shows Beta with Ask for early access: use Manually meanwhile.
