How do automatic top-up and the monthly cap work?

Short answerAutomatic top-up buys the credit pack you chose with your saved card whenever your credits fall to the point you set, and e-mails a receipt. A monthly cap limits what you spend on credits in a month. Both are on Your account → Billing → Credits.

Turn on automatic top-up

  1. Open Your account → Billing → Where credits went (the Credits page).
  2. Under Automatic top-up, choose a pack and the point to buy at (5 credits is suggested).
  3. Add a card if there is none: you enter it on Stripe's secure page, and card details never reach us.
  4. Tick the box to agree to automatic charges, then press Turn on automatic top-up.

From then on, whenever the credits you can use fall to that point, the pack is bought with your saved card, the credits are added at once and you get a receipt by e-mail. The credit history shows it as Automatic top-up. While it is on and working, you see no low-credit reminders.

Only the workspace owner or a billing manager can turn it on, change it or turn it off. Press Change to choose another pack or point (you agree again), or Turn off.

When it pauses

Automatic top-up stops and tells you why, by e-mail and on the Credits page, when:

  • the card payment does not go through, or there is no valid card;
  • your bank asks you to confirm the payment: press Confirm the payment on the Credits page;
  • the next pack would pass your monthly cap (it starts again by itself when the cap resets or you raise it);
  • it already bought the most packs allowed in a day (3 by default), or the pack is no longer sold.

Press Turn back on once it is sorted. Until then, paid actions stop when your credits run out; everything you already have stays open.

Set a monthly cap

Under Monthly spending cap, enter the most you want to spend on credits in a month and, if you like, when to warn you (80% by default), then press Set a cap. It counts every credit purchase of the month, by hand and automatic, and starts again at midnight on the 1st in your time zone. You get one warning e-mail a month when you reach the warning level. When the next purchase would pass the cap, buying waits: "This would pass your monthly cap; raise the cap or wait until …". Remove the cap takes it away.

Agencies

An agency's workspaces share the agency's credits, so automatic top-up and the cap are set in the agency's own workspace. The agency's customers see their credits, but their agency looks after buying them.
