How do I compare two scans of my website?

Short answerWebsite → Compare scans puts any two finished scans of your website side by side: the issues fixed, the new ones and those still there, with how many addresses each affects before and after and the addresses that changed. The health overview also shows your score against the recommended 90+, and errors, warnings and notices with how often each occurs.

Compare any two scans

Open Website → Compare scans and stay on Two scans of your site. Pick the Older scan and the Newer scan (the newest and the one before it are picked for you). You see:

  • each scan's health score, pages read, and its errors, warnings and notices;
  • Fixed: issues in the older scan that are gone in the newer one, with the addresses fixed;
  • New: issues only in the newer scan, with the addresses affected;
  • Still there: issues in both, with how many addresses each affects before and after.

Open an issue to see its addresses. Addresses are matched by their web address. A scan that stopped early or reached its page limit read fewer pages, so an issue can look fixed only because those pages were not read: the screen says when a scan stopped.

Against a competitor (the other tab) compares your site's structure with a competitor's, as before.

Errors, warnings and notices

Every issue has a level: errors stop pages being found or used, warnings hold pages back, notices are worth a look. The health overview and the Issues page show one bar with how often each level occurs (one issue on ten pages counts ten) and how many kinds of issue. On the Issues page, press a level to show only its issues; each issue says how many addresses it affects.

Under the health score, Your site is shown against the Recommended score (90+ unless staff chose another), with a small chart of your score after each recent scan. It is a target, not a change to how the score is worked out.

Good to know

Scans read your public website, so this works the same on every platform. Comparing costs nothing: it reads scans already kept.
