Each check, then each category
Every check counts the pages it affects. A check that fails on 1 page in 10 scores 90.
The checks are grouped into categories, and each category counts for a share of the overall score:
- Technical (errors, redirects, HTTPS, mobile viewport, the sitemap): 25%
- Indexability (whether search engines may and will index each page): 20%
- On-page (titles, descriptions, headings, images, social previews): 15%
- Internal linking (how pages are organised and linked): 15%
- Performance (how quickly the server answers, not the full load time in a browser): 10%
- Structured data: 5%
- Content quality (enough text, no copied descriptions): 5%
- Language (declared page language and language versions): 5%
When a category has nothing to check on your site, it is left out and the others share its weight.
What the number means
- 85 or more: Healthy
- 70 to 84: Opportunity
- 50 to 69: Needs attention
- Below 50: Critical
The score also has a letter: A for 90 and over, then B, C, D and E for each band of 10 below that, and F below 50.
What it does not measure
The health score does not include rankings, backlinks, visitor numbers or how long a page takes to load in a browser. For a wider view that adds those, see the SEOmise score.
When SEOmise changes its checks, older scans are scored again with the new rules, so Day 0 and today are always compared like for like.
