How do I connect my data to SEOmise?

Short answerSettings → Connections → This project lists everything your project can connect, for your website's platform: Google Search Console, Analytics, Business Profile, your website, publishing, social accounts and apps. Each shows whether it is connected and the one thing to do next.

Where to connect

Open your project, then Settings → Connections. It is the one place for every data source. You also get there from:

  • Data sources on the project's Overview ("3 of 5 connected"). It opens the first source that needs attention.
  • The notice at the top of a page that needs a source, such as Search & keywords, Quick wins, Local, Live view, Traffic, Reports and Proof of Progress: Connect Search Console, Connect Google Business Profile and so on.
  • Find a screen (Ctrl K): type "connect google", "business profile" or "tracker".
  • The project switcher: Connections.

What you see for each source

Each source has a state and one button:

  • Connected: with the account, the property or location, and when figures last arrived. The button is Manage.
  • Needs attention: something stopped, for example Google no longer accepts the saved sign-in, an import fails, or no visit has reached SEOmise for a while. The button is Fix (or Sign in again).
  • Not connected: the button is Connect.
  • Beta: the connection is switched on but not open yet. Press Ask for early access.
  • Not in your plan: See plans.

Only the sources that apply to your website's platform are listed. For example, a Shopify store sees Publish to Shopify and the SEOmise app for Shopify, and no site connector; a WordPress, Laravel or PHP site sees the Site connector. The Visitor tracker (one line of code) works on every platform.

The sources

  • Google: Search Console (clicks, impressions, positions and searches), Google Analytics (visits and key events) and, where it is switched on, Google Ads (paid search demand, kept apart from organic figures). PageSpeed is built in: nothing to connect.
  • Business Profile: your Google Business Profile listing (reviews, posts, questions, photos and performance). You can also enter the business facts yourself.
  • Your website: the Site connector (publishes the fixes you approve), the Visitor tracker and IndexNow (tells Bing, Yandex and other search engines about new pages).
  • Publishing: Shopify, Webflow and Wix, on sites built on them.
  • Social: the social accounts posts go to. Networks without a connection work by hand.
  • Apps: your own browser extension and desktop app.

Connecting Google

Press Connect Google on Search Console or Analytics. Google opens in the same window and asks you to allow read-only access; you come back to Connections. Then choose the property for this project (the card says Choose a property). One Google account can serve many projects: each project chooses its own property.

For your Business Profile, press Connect Google on its card, then choose the location that belongs to this project.

Settings → Connections → Whole workspace

Workspace → Connections shows the sign-ins your workspace holds once: each Google account with the projects that use it, each Business Profile sign-in with its businesses and locations (and which project uses each location), your social accounts and your apps. Use for a project opens that project's Connections on the right source. Below, every project shows how many of its sources are connected and what is missing.

For agencies: your clients' connections

Agency → Connections shows every client project and each source: connected, missing or failing. Where the client has to give access (for example add your Google account to their Search Console or as a manager of their Business Profile), press Request access. It sends a request through the customer portal with the steps for each source you tick; answers come back to Agency → Requests.

It needs the project in a client group with someone who can sign in, and the customer portal switched on (Agency → Clients & teams). Projects of workspaces joined to your agency account are listed too: their people's sign-ins are paused, so open the project and connect it yourself.

Who can connect

Everyone in the project sees the states. Connecting needs the right role: owners, admins and SEO managers connect Google, the Business Profile and the site connector; publishing and the store apps need the publishing permission. Someone viewing as you (support, or your agency) sees the states but cannot connect.

Prefer to do it by hand?

Every fix SEOmise suggests also comes with steps for your platform, and a new scan checks it on your live site. Settings → Install guide has the steps for your platform, with your own code filled in.
