ConsentGuard SEO Beta
How your cookie banner affects search engines and measurement. A check, not legal advice
A cookie banner can hide text and links from search engines until a visitor agrees. ConsentGuard SEO finds your consent tool on every scan and tells you when it changes.
Illustration of the screen, without data.
Why it matters
From the problem to what SEOmise does
A banner between your page and the search engine
Consent tools decide what loads before a visitor agrees. Set up well, they hold back trackers and leave your content alone. Set up badly, they hide text, links or the page's title until someone clicks, and a search engine never clicks. A new plugin or theme can swap the tool without anyone noticing.
How your cookie banner affects search engines and measurement. A check, not legal advice
- Never one signal alone. A tool is named "likely" only from two kinds of signal: its script, its banner's markup, its code on the page or its cookie. One alone is shown as "possible".
- The common consent tools. Cookiebot, Usercentrics, OneTrust, CookieYes, Complianz, iubenda, Osano, Didomi, Termly, Quantcast and InMobi Choice, Shopify's own banner, Borlabs, Axeptio and more, plus banners a site writes itself.
- Google Consent Mode as your page shows it. Whether a default is set in the page, which of the seven types it names, whether it comes before the Google tag, and when it may be set inside Tag Manager instead, marked as not verified.
How it works
Three steps, start to finish
- Scan as usualEvery website health scan reads your start page once. ConsentGuard SEO reads the same answer: nothing extra is fetched.
- See your consent toolWebsite health → Consent & SEO names the tool, how sure it is, the signals behind it, and what your page says about Google Consent Mode and IAB TCF.
- Hear when it changesWhen the next scan finds another tool, or none, the owners and admins of the workspace are told, and the project timeline records it.
Features
What you get with ConsentGuard SEO
Never one signal alone
A tool is named "likely" only from two kinds of signal: its script, its banner's markup, its code on the page or its cookie. One alone is shown as "possible".
The common consent tools
Cookiebot, Usercentrics, OneTrust, CookieYes, Complianz, iubenda, Osano, Didomi, Termly, Quantcast and InMobi Choice, Shopify's own banner, Borlabs, Axeptio and more, plus banners a site writes itself.
Google Consent Mode as your page shows it
Whether a default is set in the page, which of the seven types it names, whether it comes before the Google tag, and when it may be set inside Tag Manager instead, marked as not verified.
Honest about what it cannot see
The IAB TCF version and whether the tool answers need a real browser, so they say "not checked yet" rather than a guess.
The page as a fresh visitor, after reject and after accept Beta
Your pages opened in a throw-away browser with no consent, after "reject" and after "accept", compared for text, links, titles and structured data. The browser checks are in early access: ask for them and our team tells you when they open.
Nothing installed, nothing changed
It reads your pages from outside, like the scan, on any platform. It never changes your site or your consent settings.
Before and after
What changes with ConsentGuard SEO
Before: without ConsentGuard SEO. After: with ConsentGuard SEO. Drag the handle, or use the arrow keys, to compare.
Without ConsentGuard SEO
- Nobody knows which banner the site runs
- A plugin update swaps the banner unnoticed
- Consent Mode set up "somewhere" in Tag Manager
With ConsentGuard SEO
- The consent tool named, with its signals
- A notice when the tool changes
- Consent Mode as your page shows it, with what is unverified
Illustration of the difference, not a measured result.

Questions
ConsentGuard SEO: common questions
Is this a legal compliance check?
No. It is a check of how your banner affects search engines and measurement. A tool holding back analytics until a visitor agrees is normal and never counts against your SEO. For privacy questions, use the cookie and privacy scanner.
How sure is the name of the consent tool?
Each tool shows a confidence and the signals behind it. A tool found by one kind of signal only is shown as "possible", never as certain.
Why does Consent Mode say "not verified"?
Consent Mode can be set inside Google Tag Manager or by the consent tool's own script, which the page source does not show. Until the browser checks open, ConsentGuard SEO says so rather than reporting it as missing.
Does it cost extra?
Finding the consent tool on your scans is included. The browser checks are in early access.
