What do the Content SEO checks look at?

Short answerContent SEO checks every scanned page for its focus keyphrase, title, meta description, text length, links, images and readability, and gives each page an SEO score and a readability score.

Updated 14 October 2026

Where to find it

Open Website health → Content SEO. Every scanned page is listed with its SEO score, its readability score, its focus keyphrase, its word count and how many things there are to fix. Filter and sort the list, then pick a page to see all its checks.

The SEO checks

  • Focus keyphrase: the search words the page should be found for. SEOmise checks whether they appear in the title (and near its start), the meta description, the page address, the first paragraph, the subheadings and the image alt text, and how often they appear in the text.
  • Title width: about 600 pixels fit in Google's results before the title is cut off (an estimate).
  • Meta description: 120 to 156 characters.
  • Text length, internal and outbound links, image alt text, one main heading (H1), structured data, the canonical address and whether the page can be shown in search results.

The readability checks

Flesch reading ease, sentence length, paragraph length, how evenly subheadings are spread, passive voice (an estimate) and transition words such as "however" and "for example".

These checks are for English text. On a page in another language, readability shows as not available.

The scores

Each page gets Good, OK, Needs work or Not available. "Not available" means the data is missing: SEOmise never guesses. If your scan was made before SEOmise read page text, scan again to get the full analysis.

Fixing a page

  1. Open the page from the list.
  2. Set a focus keyphrase, or press the suggested one.
  3. Press Propose a new title and description, then From page text or Write with AI.
  4. Edit the suggestion and press Send to Changes for approval.
  5. For a page hidden from search engines that should be found, press Propose: show in search.

The checks use SEOmise's copy of the page from the scan. After a change goes live, the next scan updates the scores.
