How do I replay a visit, and capture every page for Live view?

Short answerOpen a visitor in Live view and press Replay this visit: SEOmise first gets a copy of each page, then shows the visitor's pointer moving as they moved it, a numbered mark at the moment of each click, the page scrolling as they scrolled, and what each click was on in plain words. All pages → Capture every page copies the pages without a recent copy in the background, with a progress card you can stop and restart.

About Live view: see real-time website visitors, right now, and where they click

Updated 31 October 2026

Replay a visit

  1. Open Analyse → Visitors → Live view, then open a visitor (on the page, in On the site now or in Past visits).
  2. Press Replay this visit. The bar above the page shows which page of the visit is playing, with Previous, Pause / Play, Next and Stop.

What you see:

  • The page itself, first. When SEOmise has no copy of a page yet, it gets one before the replay starts ("Getting a copy of this page…"). It loads the page from your site; when the site does not answer, the replay lists what the visitor did instead (open the page under All pages to capture it, or to ask a visitor's browser for it). Account, basket, checkout and order pages are never copied from a visitor's browser. Nothing is drawn until the copy is there, and never over the PageSpeed picture.
  • The visitor's pill moves as their mouse moved (on a computer), or jumps from tap to tap (on a phone or tablet). The coloured band is the part of the page their screen showed.
  • Numbered marks appear at the moment each click or tap happened. The list beside the page names what was clicked: "the Request a quote button", "a picture in the gallery", "the main menu", "a link to /contact/". Hover a mark for its name.
  • The page scrolls as the visitor scrolled, or to each click when the scrolling was not recorded.
  • Long quiet spells are shortened to a second, so a replay never sits still; the times shown are the real ones.
  • With reduce motion switched on in your device's settings, the pill and the page jump instead of gliding.

The phone and tablet frames show the copy at the width of that screen, so the marks land on the phone layout of the page.

If no copy of a page can be made (the site refuses SEOmise and no visitor has sent it yet), the replay lists what the visitor did on that page instead: the time, what was clicked or how far they scrolled, and where on the page.

What is recorded for a replay

The tracker on your site (version 5, served by SEOmise, no plugin update needed) records each click, tap, scroll position and (on a computer) mouse position with its own moment. For a click it keeps the element's kind, its role and a short text taken only from the button's or link's own words, a picture's description or a title. It never keeps what anyone types into a field, and e-mail addresses and long numbers are blanked. Visits recorded by the earlier tracker replay too, placed within the second they arrived in.

Staff choose the most pointer, scroll and click events one replay draws (2,000 unless changed); every click is always kept and the rest is thinned evenly from start to end.

Capture every page

Live view → All pages → Capture every page copies every page that has no recent copy, busiest first, in the background:

  • A progress card at the bottom of the screen shows "Capturing pages: 23 of 60", the page being read and every page that could not be copied, with the reason (for example "The page answered HTTP 403.").
  • Stop ends the run before the next page; the pages copied so far are kept.
  • Restart starts again with the pages not copied yet, so it carries on where it stopped.
  • Close the card at any time: the capture keeps going, and the button reads Capturing… · Stop until it ends.
  • One capture runs at a time for a project. Staff choose how many pages one run reads (60 unless changed) and how long it keeps starting new pages (13 minutes unless changed).

Capturing and stopping need the right to manage the project; anyone who can see the project can follow the progress.

Every platform

Replays and page copies work the same on WordPress, Laravel, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, static sites and any other platform: the copy is taken from the public page, or from a visitor's browser for pages built by JavaScript.
