I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
Short answerPress Forgotten? on the sign-in page and enter your e-mail address. Open the link we send (it works for 60 minutes), enter your two-step code if it is on, then choose a new password.
Reset it
- On the sign-in page, press Forgotten? next to Password.
- Enter your e-mail address and press Send the link. For safety, the page gives the same answer whether or not the address has an account.
- Open the link in the e-mail. It works for 60 minutes.
- If two-step sign-in is on, enter your code first: from your authenticator app, the texted code, or a recovery code.
- Enter your new password twice and press Save the password.
You can then sign in with the new password.
Good to know
- A remembered device never skips the code here, and an e-mailed one-time code is not offered: the link is already in your e-mail.
- A new password must be at least 12 characters; a short sentence works well. With the standard settings it must also not appear in a known data breach, or be one of your recent passwords.
- Every other device is signed out, every remembered device is forgotten, and we e-mail you that the password changed.
- Choosing a new password also unlocks an account that was locked by wrong passwords.
- Wrong codes on this page make you wait, as at sign-in. Too many end the link.
- Link not working any more? Press Ask for a new link.
