What does the AI SEO check look at?

Short answerIt reads your robots.txt, llms.txt, sitemap and up to 15 of your most important pages the way an AI crawler does, then scores how easy it is for AI assistants and AI search to read, understand and quote your site.

Updated 14 October 2026

More and more people ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude or Google's AI instead of scrolling through results. The AI SEO check tests whether those assistants can use your site. Run it from Grow with SEOmise → AI SEO → Run the AI SEO check.

What it reads

  • robots.txt: the file that tells crawlers what they may read.
  • llms.txt: an optional short guide to your site that some AI tools read.
  • Your sitemap: the list of your pages for crawlers.
  • Up to 15 pages, starting with your home page, as your server sends them. JavaScript is not run, because many AI crawlers do not run it.

The four topics

  • AI access and crawling: can the AI search bots read the site, may your pages be quoted, and is the text in the page itself rather than added by scripts?
  • Answers AI can quote: does each page open with a direct answer, use questions as subheadings, give specific facts and use lists, with enough depth?
  • Trust and entities: is the business named, is it clear who stands behind the page, is there a last-updated date, and are claims backed by sources?
  • Structure and markup: structured data describing the business and each page, a clear heading outline, and a title and description on every page.

The score

Each check has a weight from SEOmise's AI search rules. The site-wide checks make up 35% of the score and the average page 65%.

  • 80 and above: Ready to be quoted
  • 50 to 79: Partly ready
  • below 50: Hard for AI to use

Whether training crawlers (bots that collect text to train AI models) may read your site is your choice, so it is reported but not scored.

Good to know

  • The check uses no credits. A project can run it up to 10 times a day.
  • It works on any website, whatever it is built with.
  • Score history shows how your score changes over time.
  • Owners, admins and SEO managers can run it.
