Disavowing is a last resort, and most flagged links are harmless. Read what disavowing does before you start.
1. Mark the candidates
In Analyse → Backlinks → Risk review, decide per website or per link. Choose Disavow candidate only for links you did not ask for and are sure are harmful, such as a paid link network. Every decision needs a short reason. Decisions are made by people who manage backlinks (Owner, Admin or SEO manager).
2. Approve the file
At the bottom of the page, Disavow candidate file lists the candidates. Someone who can approve link spending (the owner, an admin, an approver or a billing manager) ticks each warning under Confirm each warning to approve:
- SEOmise does not submit the file anywhere; uploading it is your decision and your action.
- Disavowing links that help you can lower your rankings.
- Google already ignores most spammy links on its own.
- Uploading replaces the current disavow file in Search Console, so merge it with any file already there first.
Then press Approve disavow candidate file.
3. Download and upload
Under Approved files, press Download .txt (approvers only). Then upload it in Google Search Console's disavow tool (https://search.google.com/search-console/disavow-links) as an owner of the site. Google takes a few weeks to process it. Keep the file: a new upload replaces the old one, so always upload the full list.
Rather not do it yourself?
Where your installation offers it, Risk review also lets you order this from the SEOmise team, who go through the risky websites with you before anything is disavowed.
