How do I use the backlink galaxy?

Short answerOpen Analyse → Backlinks → Galaxy. Each dot is a website linking to you; filter by risk, topic, link attribute, review decision, status and domain rank, tick the legend and the topic groups to show or hide dots, and click a dot for its information card: the exact linking page, your page it links to, the anchor, attribute, link weight and risk score, its other links, and Start disavow.

About Backlinks: a backlink checker: who links to you, what it is worth and what needs a closer look

Updated 21 October 2026

The galaxy draws every website that links to you around your own site. What the distance, size and colour of the dots mean is explained in the backlink galaxy explanation.

Open it

Analyse → Backlinks → Galaxy, or the Backlink galaxy tab at the top of the Links pages. It fills after your first backlink check.

Filter

Narrow it down by Risk (high, medium, low), Topic, Link attribute (dofollow, nofollow, UGC, sponsored), Review (not reviewed, keep, disavow candidate, ignore), Status (live, lost or all) and Min. domain rank. The topic of each website is an estimate.

Show or hide dots

The Legend box has a tick box for each kind of dot: Low risk, Medium risk, High risk, Reviewed and Paid placement. Untick one and those dots fade out of the galaxy; All and None tick or untick them all. A dot shows only when every kind it belongs to is ticked, so unticking Reviewed hides every reviewed website whatever its risk.

The Topic groups box does the same for On topic, Related, Off topic and Not enough data. Both boxes work together, in the galaxy and in the Table view, and their counts follow each other: the group counts show what the legend leaves, and the legend counts show what the groups leave. Show all brings every dot back.

The information card

Click a dot (or move to it with Tab and press Enter) for its card. On a phone it opens from the right.

  • The link: the exact page that links to you (it opens in a new tab), your page it points to (it opens in SEOmise's page view when that page is in your latest scan), the anchor, the link attribute, when it was first and last seen, and whether it is live or lost.
  • Link weight: SEOmise's estimate of how much the link can pass, from the website's stored domain rank and the link's attribute. No new look-up is made.
  • The website: its domain rank, its risk score with the reasons, and its topic group.
  • Other links from this website, a few at a time; Show all in the explorer opens the backlink explorer filtered to that website.
  • Start disavow (for people who manage backlinks): mark the whole website, or only the links you tick, as a disavow candidate with a short reason. That starts the usual disavow workflow: an approver checks the candidate file under Risk review and approves it, and only then can it be downloaded. SEOmise never sends anything to Google.
  • All details and review opens the full panel with every anchor and the keep / candidate / ignore review.

Reviewed websites are marked, and so are paid placements bought through SEOmise's link marketplace. Every technical word on the card has an ⓘ that explains it; the full explanations are in What do the backlink fields mean?.

Move it around

Galaxy and Table switch the view; next to them, Pause movement stops the animation and Start movement starts it again, and while the dots move, Shake it sets them loose. Drag a dot and let go. Table shows the same websites as a list with their topic, risk and review.
