The four results
- Verified as described (link present, as described): the page links to your page, marked and worded as the seller claimed, as far as the report said.
- Different from the claim (link present, not as described): the link is there, but something differs. The row says what: nofollow where followed was promised, followed where sponsored was promised, another target (for example your home page instead of the page ordered) or another link text. A link that changed since the last check is here too.
- Missing: the page answered without a link to your site, or the page is gone (HTTP 404 or 410). A link seen before and gone now is marked removed.
- Could not check: the page did not let us see it, with the reason: a bot check or CAPTCHA, robots.txt, a site that refused us, a request to slow down, a timeout, a server error, a page too large to read or one that needs JavaScript. These are never counted as missing and their credits are given back. We never try to get past a bot check.
The verified share counts only the distinct addresses that could be checked; the ones that could not are shown apart with their number.
What each row shows
Open a row for its evidence: the link as written in the page (also after the page's base address), where it points, how many times it appears and where (body, footer, menu or sidebar), its full rel value (nofollow, sponsored and ugc in any case and together), the link text and the words around it, the HTTP status, the redirects followed and the address the page answered at, its canonical tag and any noindex in the page or its headers. Each check has the time, the method version and a fingerprint (SHA-256) of the evidence; the history shows every earlier check unchanged.
A paid link that is followed and not marked sponsored or nofollow gets a note worth a policy review. A link in a footer, menu or sidebar is noted as possibly repeated on every page.
What it cannot say
- Index status unknown: a page check does not show whether a search engine indexed the page or counts the link.
- Followed means no nofollow, sponsored or ugc and no page-level nofollow. It does not mean a search engine passes credit through the link.
- DA, DR, AS and TF are figures made by Moz, Ahrefs, Semrush and Majestic. In the audit they are the seller's figures, shown as claimed.
- Nofollow, ugc and sponsored links can still bring visitors, mentions and discovery.
- The audit never says whether a seller is honest; it shows the evidence.
Export and share
Export gives CSV and PDF (and Excel) with one line per link and the limitations first; every cell is guarded against spreadsheet formulas. Share link makes a private Live client report link that expires and can be revoked under Reports → Live client links; you can leave out what the seller claimed (prices and figures).
The free public check
When it is switched on, the public page Backlink Verify → Free check checks a few links (5 by default) without an account, after a bot check and within daily limits. The result is kept for a day behind its private link, and nothing about who asked (no name, e-mail or network address) is kept with it. A free account checks the whole report.
When a re-check finds a link lost
With re-checks switched on, each 7, 30 and 90-day re-check compares every link with what the check before it saw. When a link that was there has been removed (or its page is gone), now carries nofollow, sponsored or ugc where it was followed, or now points to another page, the people who manage the project get an e-mail and a note in the notification bell listing those links. The project's To do gets one item per audit, Ask the seller to restore N lost links, with what each check saw, and the project timeline records it. A link that stays gone is told about once. A page that could not be checked is never counted as lost.
