How do I sort the backlinks, open a linking page, and ignore links I do not want to see?

Short answerIn Analyse → Backlinks → Profile, the Backlinks list sorts by any column title (click once for ascending, again for descending), the small arrow beside each website opens the exact page that links to you in a new tab, and Ignore hides a link from the list. Hide ignored is on by default; switch it off to see ignored links greyed with Undo ignore. Ignoring never deletes a link and never changes the disavow file.

Sort the list

Click a column title (Source, Target, Anchor, Attribute, Domain rank, First seen, Last seen or Risk) to sort the whole list by it, A to Z or lowest first; click it again for the other way round. An arrow beside the title shows the direction. The Sort choice above the list follows the titles, and also offers Recently lost. The sort is kept in the page's address, so a bookmarked or shared link opens sorted the same way.

Open the linking page

The small arrow beside each website opens the page that holds the link (not just the website's home page) in a new tab. Its tooltip shows the address. The same arrow is on the New & lost and Toxic flags lists, and on the phone each backlink opens its linking page.

Press Ignore on a row, or tick several rows and press Ignore, to take links you do not want to work through out of the list (a directory you know about, a link that is fine). With Hide ignored on (the default) they leave the list, and the line above it says how many are hidden, for example 12 ignored · Show. Switch Hide ignored off to see them greyed, each with Undo ignore.

Ignoring is only about this list:

  • the link is not deleted, and the next backlink check keeps it ignored;
  • it is not a risk decision and it never adds anything to, or takes anything from, the disavow file (decide on risky links in Risk review);
  • the profile's other figures (referring domains, anchors, toxic flags and the Authority overview) still count it, because it is still a real link.

Ignoring needs the Owner, Admin or SEO manager role; read-only members see the list and the switch. Staff viewing your workspace cannot ignore links for you. Whether ignored links are hidden at first is a platform setting (on by default).
