I don't have my phone. Can I get a code by e-mail?

Short answerYes, when it is offered: on the two-step page press E-mail me a one-time code. A 6-digit code goes to your sign-in address. It works once, only in that browser, for a few minutes, and we e-mail you a note afterwards.

Updated 14 October 2026

How to use it

  1. On the Two-step sign-in page, press E-mail me a one-time code.
  2. Check your inbox, and your spam folder. The page shows the address, partly hidden.
  3. Type the 6 digits. The sixth digit sends the code by itself.
  4. You see "You are signed in", with Continue and Set up two-step sign-in again.

The rules

  • The code works once, for this sign-in, and only in the browser that asked for it.
  • It expires after 10 minutes by default. The e-mail and the page tell you how long.
  • You can ask for one code a minute, and a few a day (5 by default). After that, use your app or a recovery code, or try again tomorrow.
  • A device cannot be remembered after signing in with an e-mailed code.
  • We e-mail you a note each time someone signs in this way, with the device and place.
  • Wrong codes count towards a lockout, like any wrong code.
  • It is not offered when you change or reset your password: that link already arrives by e-mail.
  • It is not available on every account. Then the page says so; use your app or a recovery code.

Lost your authenticator for good?

Once you are in, open Your account → Profile and sign-in, turn two-step sign-in off and on again, and scan the new QR code with your new phone. If two-step sign-in is required for your account and cannot be turned off, contact support.
