What it needs
- SEOmise for Shopify, installed and linked to the project (Settings → Connect your website → Store apps).
- The store's approval of the fix permissions: products (titles, descriptions and structured data of products and collections), files (image alt text) and navigation (redirects). If the store installed the app before, Store apps shows Approve in Shopify: press it and approve them once.
- The project's website must be this store (its platform is Shopify, or its address is the store's).
Store apps shows Fixes through the app: On when everything is in place. While fixes through the app are not switched on yet it shows Beta: press Ask for early access and we will e-mail you.
What it changes
- Page titles and meta descriptions of products and collections (their SEO fields) and of pages and blog articles (the SEO title and description Shopify keeps for them). Leaving one empty puts the store's default back.
- Image alt text of product images. The image fix matches the pictures it found on a product page to that product's images; other pictures keep their steps.
- Structured data for products, collections, pages, blog articles and the home page. Shopify shows it only when SEOmise structured data is on under Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds: Store apps has an Open the theme editor link. Without it the change is saved in Shopify but the live check does not find it, so it is put back.
- Redirects from old addresses, with Shopify's own URL redirects. Shopify's redirects are permanent (301): a temporary redirect or a "gone" answer comes with steps instead.
What we know about your store
While fixes through the app are on, SEOmise reads your store's products, collections and blog posts through the app (titles, addresses, types and tags; never customers, orders or prices) and shows them on Store apps as What we know about your store. Articles use them: links to your real product and collection pages, your products and collections as what you offer, and no topic your blog already covers. It is read again every day and whenever Shopify says a product or collection changed; Read it again reads it now. Unlinking or uninstalling deletes it, and so does a catalogue that could not be read for 30 days.
How a change goes
- The change shows what the page says now and what it will say. Edit it if you like, then approve it.
- SEOmise sends it through the app and keeps what each field said before.
- SEOmise checks your live store: the new title, description, alt text, structured data or redirect must show. A change the store does not show is put back.
- Undo (the whole change, or one page, image or redirect) writes the earlier values back. If someone changed that field in Shopify since, SEOmise stops and asks you first.
If Shopify asks SEOmise to slow down (each store has a limit per app), SEOmise waits and carries on where it stopped; nothing is written twice.
What stays by hand
The home page's title and description (Online Store → Preferences), canonical addresses and robots tags (your theme sets them), internal links in page text, and anything not on a product, collection, page or blog article. These come with the exact steps for your Shopify admin and are checked by the next scan.
Stopping
Unlink the store in Store apps, or uninstall the app in Shopify: fixes stop at once. Shopify's erasure request 48 hours after an uninstall also deletes the earlier values SEOmise kept for undo.
