How do I import keywords from Ahrefs, Semrush or SE Ranking?

Short answerSearch → All your searches → Import from CSV turns a keyword list exported from Ahrefs, Semrush, SE Ranking, Google Search Console or any other tool into followed searches: choose the file, check the columns SEOmise matched, check the counts (new, already followed, repeated, over your plan's limit) and import, optionally into a keyword list.

Updated 20 October 2026

Open Search → All your searches and press Import from CSV (people who manage the project).

1. Choose the file

Export your keywords as a CSV file (comma, semicolon or tab separated; UTF-8 or the UTF-16 "for Excel" export both work). SEOmise recognises Ahrefs, Semrush and Google Search Console exports by their header row. For SE Ranking and any other tool you match the columns yourself in the next step; you can also say which tool the file came from.

2. Check the columns

SEOmise suggests which column holds the keyword, and where present the monthly searches, difficulty, cost per click, position and page address. Change any of them; only the keyword column is needed. The first rows of the file are shown as plain text.

3. Check the counts, then import

Check the counts shows, without changing anything:

  • New: keywords that will be followed;
  • Already followed: skipped;
  • Repeated in the file: counted once;
  • Rows without a keyword;
  • Over your plan's limit: what does not fit in your plan's followed searches. Nothing is dropped silently: remove searches you no longer need, or upgrade, and import the same file again.

Choose the markets (country, language and device) and, optionally, a keyword list (tag) to put them in, then Import. A page address on your own website becomes the keyword's target page. Volumes, difficulty and cost per click from the file are kept as third-party estimates, labelled as such.

Safe by design

The file is read once and not kept. Nothing in it is run: a cell that starts like a spreadsheet formula (=, +, -, @) loses those characters. Staff set the largest file, the most rows read and how many files a project may import an hour (Settings → Policies → Keyword import).
