What is the map rank grid and how do I set it up?
Short answerThe map rank grid checks where your business appears in Google Maps results from points spread around it, for the searches you choose. It needs a local rank provider on your installation; without one the screen says Integration required.
Someone searching two streets away can see different map results from someone across town. The map rank grid shows this: a square of points around your business, each with the position your business had in the map results for a search.
Before you start
- Connect Google Business Profile and attach a location first.
- The grid needs a local rank provider. Google's Business Profile tools do not report map positions, so SEOmise gets them from a separate provider connected by the platform. If none is connected, Local → Map rank grid shows Integration required. Everything else under Local works without it.
- The map rank grid has to be part of your plan, which also sets how many keywords you can track.
Set it up
- Open Local → Map rank grid.
- Pick keywords from the suggestions (the searches Google reports for your profile, with their impressions over the last six months, and your main category), or add your own, one per line.
- Choose the grid size (from 3 × 3 up to 9 × 9 points, as far as the provider allows), the spacing in kilometres and how often to rescan: Weekly, Monthly or Only when I ask.
- The grid is centred on your business's map position from Google. If Google has none, enter the latitude and longitude.
- Press Save and start. Scan now runs a fresh scan at any time.
Reading the grid
Each point shows your position there, or that the business was not in the top 20. Above the grid you see Visibility, Average position, Top-3 points and the Next scan. Visibility runs from 0 to 100: a top-3 position counts fully, positions 4 to 10 count half and 11 to 20 a fifth. If one side of the area is clearly weaker, SEOmise says so. Positions as a table shows the same figures as text.
Map positions vary by searcher, device and time. They are measurements, not promises.
