What is the share of map top 3?

Short answerOf the map rank grid points that were checked, the share where your business is in the top 3 of Google Maps results, scan after scan, for every tracked keyword together and for each one. It is on the Map rank grid, the Local overview, the Local Intelligence portfolio and the Business Profile section of reports.

About Map rank grid: a Google Maps rank tracker: see where your business appears across your area

Updated 27 October 2026

Google shows three businesses in the map pack, so being in the top 3 is what most searchers see first. The share of map top 3 follows that over time.

How it is worked out

For each scan of the map rank grid: the grid points where your business ranks 1 to 3, divided by the points that were checked, over all tracked keywords; and the same for each keyword. A point the provider could not check is left out, and a scan where nothing could be checked has no share (never 0 %). Staff can change which positions count as the map top (3 by default) and how many scans the trend shows.

Where to see it

  • Analyse → Local → Map rank grid: under the grid, the share now, the change over the scans shown, a chart scan by scan and a table per keyword. Stored scans keep their share even if the rank provider is disconnected later.
  • Local overview: every location's latest share and its change.
  • Local Intelligence: the portfolio has the share per location.
  • Reports: Proof of Progress and the other reports with a Business Profile section show the first and latest share in the period.

It is read only from scans already stored: no extra scan is bought for it.
