How do I run a tool from the SEO Toolbox, and make its report?

Short answerOpen a tool from the SEO Toolbox, choose the website and press Run. When it has finished you see the problems to look at, most important first: what each one is, why it matters, where it is and how to fix it on your website's platform. Generate report makes the tool's report in your brand or ours, as every report in the app.

A tool's page is where you run the tool on one of your websites and see what it found. Accessibility check & fix, the 404 fixer, the cookie and privacy scan, Speed fixes, Indexing and URL health and Website watch run here; any other tool opens its own screen from this page.

Run the tool

  1. Open the tool from the SEO Toolbox. It works on the project picked in the bar at the top (Project): press it to choose another website.
  2. Press Run. The tool only reads your website: nothing on it changes. Running a tool counts towards the tool's monthly runs, as on the tool's own screen.
  3. While it runs you see how far it got (the pages read, and each step: done, running or waiting). You can leave the page: the results wait for you.

You need a role that may run scans (owner, admin or SEO manager). Everyone who can see the website can read the results.

Some tools use their own words for Run: Scan the website (Indexing and URL health reads the site's scan), Start watching and Check now (Website watch, which also checks by itself every few minutes; these need a role that may change the project).

The results

  • At the top: the score out of 100 where the tool gives one (good from 80, poor below 50, as your workspace's settings say), the number of problems to look at, when it ran and the change since the run before.
  • The problems in three groups: High priority, Medium priority and Low priority, each with how many pages or addresses it affects. Each tool's own levels are shown beside them. Speed fixes are ordered by the time each could win: what the latest PageSpeed test on a phone measured above Google's "good" line (high from 1 second, medium from 0.3 seconds, as your workspace's settings say); without a PageSpeed test they show as medium, not measured.
  • A score shows only where the tool gives one: the accessibility score, and for Speed fixes Google's PageSpeed score of the latest test on a phone. The other tools show the problems without a score.
  • Each problem is a row with how many pages it is on; press it to open its panel with Why it matters, Where (the first few pages, then Show more) and How to fix it with the steps for your website's platform: WordPress, Laravel, Shopify, Wix, Webflow, Squarespace or any other site, through the site connector or by hand. The buttons at the foot of the panel are the three ways to fix: do it yourself (free), let us help you step by step, or have it done for you. Copy the steps copies them for a note or your developer.
  • Past runs lists the earlier runs with their score and the change, and the report of a run when you saved one.
  • Want these fixed for you? offers a plan that makes the fixes it can through your site connector, with your approval of each change.

On a phone the problems are a list: tap one to open it from the bottom of the screen; Run again and Report are in the bar at the bottom.

The report

Press Generate report. The report is the same kind as every report in the app: a cover with who it is for and from, the summary with the score and the problems against the run before, then each problem with why it matters, where it is and the steps for your platform.

Under Report brand choose who the report says it is from:

  • Our brand: our logo and colours.
  • Your brand (white label): your logo, colours and name, and ours is not shown. It needs the white-label add-on and your brand set up under Agency → Branding & domain; until then it shows why and where to set it up.
  • Co-branded, where it is offered: your brand with "prepared with" our name.

Press Save report to keep it, then Download PDF. Saving and downloading need a role that may export reports. A workspace saves up to 200 tool reports a day (as your workspace's settings say), counted from midnight UTC. A report you saved in your own brand shows in ours if white label is no longer set up for the workspace.

Share a report

Open a saved report and press Make a share link. Anyone with the link can read the report, without signing in, for 30 days (as your workspace's settings say); it cannot be changed from the link, and search engines never list it. In your own brand, the link uses your own domain where it is set up. Switch off stops a link at once: an owner or admin, or the person who made the report, can do it. The list shows when each link ends and how often it was opened. Only people who may share the report see a link's address; others see that the link exists and when it ends.

All your reports

Reports lists every tool report saved in the workspace, newest first, for one website or all of them. Open one to read it again, download its PDF, or delete it (the person who made it, or a manager).
