What does Website watch check, and when does it alert me?

Short answerWebsite watch checks your website every five minutes and alerts you by e-mail or on your phone when it goes down, when its certificate or domain name is about to run out, or when something changes that you did not expect. It works on any platform.

Updated 14 October 2026

Start watching

  1. Open Tools → Website watch. If it is not in your plan yet, you can add it from Workspace → Store.
  2. Enter your Website address and press Start watching.

Website watch checks from outside, so it works on every platform without a connector. Someone who manages the project starts it.

What it checks

  • Every five minutes: does the home page answer, how fast, does it still end on your site, and what its text, scripts and spam words look like. The site counts as down after two failed checks in a row, so one blip is not an outage.
  • Every six hours: the security certificate (the padlock), the DNS settings and, when the SEOmise connector is on your site, its software versions and waiting updates.
  • Once a day: the domain name's expiry date from the registry.

When it alerts you

  • The website is down, or the home page shows an error.
  • The home page sends visitors to another website, spam words appear, or new scripts from other websites appear.
  • The home page changed a lot (you choose the share of words that counts as a lot).
  • The DNS settings changed.
  • The certificate is not trusted, has expired, or expires within 14 days.
  • The domain name expires within 30 days.

Smaller problems, such as a slow answer, show on the screen without an alert. When a problem clears by itself, everyone who was alerted gets an all-clear. A problem that comes and goes alerts at most once in 30 minutes.

How you are told

  • E-mail to the people who manage the project.
  • Phone and browser notifications, if they are in your plan. Each person turns them on under Account → Notifications.

A change you made yourself

For changes such as new scripts or a new home page, press That was us: mark as expected. Changes nobody marks close by themselves after seven days.

Stop watching ends the checks and removes the history.
