How does listings sync work?
Short answerOpen Analyse → Local → Listings. Press Send my details (later Prepare a push), check each detail as it was sent before and as it will be sent, and someone who may publish approves it. Each network then has a row with its status (live, pending, error, duplicate), when it was last synced, Fix and View, and the consistency score shows how many of your listings match your details.
Listings sync sends your business details to directories and other networks through a listings provider, BrightLocal or Yext: whichever serves your country (our team chooses it per region). You never need your own account with them. It works the same whatever your website is built on, because listings live on the networks, not on your site.
What is sent
Your business name, street address, town, county or region, postcode, country, phone, website, categories, opening hours, description (and a short version of it) and the photos you uploaded here (never Google's copies). They come from your Business Profile, or from what you entered under Local, and only the details you may use: an out-of-date copy of Google's data is never sent. BrightLocal also receives a contact name and e-mail for its directory orders (the workspace owner's unless our team set none); you see it in the changes before you approve. Where a provider has no place for a detail (BrightLocal takes uploaded photo files only; Yext keeps its own category list), the changes say it is not sent.
Step by step
- Open Analyse → Local → Listings and choose the location at the top.
- Press Send my details the first time, Prepare a push after that. Nothing is sent yet: a list shows each detail Sent before and Will be sent, marked Added, Changed or Removed. If the street address, town, postcode, country or phone is missing, add it under Local first.
- Approve and send: someone who may publish to your Business Profile (an owner, admin or approver) approves it. By default it must be someone other than the person who prepared it, unless nobody else may publish. Discard drops it.
- A few minutes later each network gets its own row. Statuses are read again twice a day (and sooner when the provider tells us something changed); Check now reads them at once, at most every ten minutes.
The rows
- Live: the listing is published. View opens it.
- Pending: the network has not published it yet; directories take from a few days to a few weeks.
- Error or Not available: the network refused something or needs something only you can give. Fix says what the network reported; correct the detail under Local (or on the network itself) and prepare a push again.
- Duplicate: a second listing for your business on that network. Fix offers Suppress the duplicate where the provider supports it; otherwise it tells you how to remove it.
The consistency score
The listings the provider finds become citations of your location and are checked like every other citation: name, address and phone against your details. The score is the share of checked listings that match (an acceptable variant, such as Rd for Road, counts as a match). The figures above the rows show the live listings, those waiting for the network and those that need your attention.
Price and locations
Listings sync is an add-on with a price per location a month (or a year), on top of any paid plan. You choose the number of locations when you add it, and change it on this page under Locations covered (people who manage billing). Agencies add it for all their client workspaces at once or for one client. More locations than are covered are paused, newest first, until the number is raised; when the add-on ends the sync pauses and your listings stay as they are.
Your reviews from Yext or BrightLocal
The reviews the provider collects can join your reviews inbox (Social → Reviews → Review sites):
- Yext reviews: choose a location already synced through Yext and press Connect. The reviews Yext collects for it appear with your other reviews, each with the site it was written on and a link to reply there.
- BrightLocal reviews: enter the number of the location's Reputation Manager report in BrightLocal (digits only) and press Connect. Reports are read with our BrightLocal account, so our team first confirms the report is your business's; until then the card says it is waiting, and Cancel withdraws it.
When it is not available
While our team has not switched it on it shows Beta with Ask for early access. If no provider covers your country yet, use the Apple and Bing set-up and ask for directory listings done for you; Citations checks those listings the same way.
