What does "Remember this device" do, and when is the code asked again?
Short answerTick Remember this device at the two-step step and that browser skips the code for a set number of days (30 by default), as long as the browser, its system and your location still match. Changing your password or signing out everywhere asks for it again.
Remember a device
On the Two-step sign-in page, tick Remember this device (it shows the number of days) before you type the last digit of your code. Do not tick it on a shared computer.
We e-mail you when a device is remembered.
"Keep me signed in on this device" on the sign-in page is something else: it keeps you signed in after you close the browser. When it brings you back, the two-step code is still asked unless the device is remembered.
When the code is skipped
The remembered browser skips the code while:
- it is the same browser on the same system (browser updates do not matter),
- you are signing in from a matching place (by default the same country; SEOmise can set a stricter or looser rule), and
- the remembered period has not run out.
When the code is asked again
- The remembered period has ended.
- You switched browser or system. The page says your browser changed.
- You are somewhere else. The page says your network changed.
- You changed or reset your password, or recovered your account.
- You pressed Sign out everywhere, or Sign out of all other sessions on another device.
- You pressed Revoke trust or Remove device under Where you're signed in.
- You turned two-step sign-in off.
- This browser's cookies were cleared.
A password reset or change always asks for the code: a remembered device never skips it there.
Remembering devices may be switched off for some accounts, such as SEOmise staff. The page then does not offer it.
