SEOmise keeps every kind of data only as long as it needs to. Each automatic deletion is listed in one place, with how long things are kept and who is told. You only ever see deletions of things you can open yourself.
The bar at the top of the page
When something you can see is going to be deleted, a bar appears at the top of every page, on the computer and in the phone app: for example "3 items in Data export files will be deleted in 6 days 23 h". By default it appears 14 days before, again 7 days before and on the day itself, and stays until the next one. On the last day the countdown shows hours and minutes.
- Several deletions are one bar: "3 deletions coming: soonest in 2 days". Press Show each one to see them.
- Press Fold to shrink it to a small pill for the rest of your visit. On the last day it cannot be folded.
- Press See what is due to see the list of what goes, and when, in your own time zone.
- Export (or Download it now) takes you to where you can save a copy first.
- Keep longer adds extra days, up to 30 by default, with a short reason that is kept in the audit log. It is offered only where it is allowed (see below), and by default only to the workspace's owners and admins.
You also get one notice in the bell at each of these points, and one e-mail 7 days before when a whole workspace or account, or something paid for, is about to go.
Things removed every night
Some data is removed a little at a time: for example scans older than your plan keeps, or provider answers in our records after a year. These would keep the bar up for ever, so instead one line on Monday sums up what goes in the coming 7 days. Logs and housekeeping (server logs, expired cache, old sign-in records) are not announced at all.
What is deleted, and when (by default)
| What | When it goes | Who sees the warning |
|---|---|---|
| Your workspace, after you asked for it to be deleted | When the cooling-off period ends (14 days by default) | Everyone in the workspace |
| A closed workspace | When its recovery window ends (30 days) | Our staff, and you if you can still sign in |
| Your account, after you asked to erase it | When the cooling-off period ends | You |
| Data export files | When the download link expires (7 days) | Owners and admins |
| Shared project access with an end date | On the end date | Owners and admins, and the person it was shared with |
| Website scans | Older than your plan keeps; the first scan (Day 0) and the current one always stay | Everyone who can see the project; an agency's clients for their own projects |
| Website backups | When the backup plan's days are over | Everyone who can see the website |
| Leads and lead conversations | After the leads period without activity | People who can see leads |
| Copies of messages sent to you | After a year; the log line stays | Not announced |
| Copies of Google data | After 30 days at most (Google's rule) | Not announced |
Our staff see deletions of the platform's own data in the same way, each for what their role allows, and a calendar of everything due on the platform.
Keeping something longer
Where the rules allow it, Keep longer moves the date by the days you choose. It is never offered past a legal or contract limit:
- Google data is kept 30 days at most (Google's rule).
- Personal data (leads, conversations) is kept only for the leads period.
- Answers bought from a data provider follow the provider's licence.
On every platform
The bar works the same whichever platform your website uses (WordPress, Laravel, another PHP site or any other): it is about the data SEOmise keeps, not about your website.
