My website will not connect to SEOmise. What can I check?
Short answerMost problems are an expired pairing code, a code made for another site, a site that is not on https, or a security plugin or firewall blocking the connector. The project's Site connector page shows the last error for each connection.
Where to look first
Open the project → Settings → Site connector. Under Connections, each site shows its status, its last contact and the last error. Check connection asks the site again.
Messages and what to do
- "That pairing code is not valid or has expired." A pairing code works once, for 30 minutes. Press Create pairing code for a new one. The personal WordPress plugin and the PHP file from Connect & publish connect themselves within 48 hours; after that, pair by code.
- "This pairing code belongs to …" The code was made in a project for another website, or the site answered on another address or port. Open SEOmise on the right project and make the code there.
- "The site must use https:// to connect for publishing." Publishing needs a secure (https) site.
- "The site could not be reached." The site was down or slow, or something blocked SEOmise. Firewalls and security plugins can block the connector. On WordPress, allow the REST addresses
seomise/v1/command,seomise/v1/handshakeandseomise/v1/pair. - "The connector address answered with a redirect." Pair the connector again from the site.
- "This site is blocked": see the article on connector updates and check-ins.
By platform
- WordPress: the plugin must be installed and activated. If Connect WordPress fails, a security plugin may have switched application passwords off. Download your personal plugin instead and upload it under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin; it connects itself when you click Activate.
- Laravel: register the service provider, add the two routes, run
php artisan seomise:pairwith your SEOmise address and the code, and make sure Laravel's scheduler runs every minute. It needs PHP's sodium extension. - Other PHP sites: every page must load
seomise-connector.php, either with the line at the top of each page or once in a shared header. It needs PHP 7.4 or newer with the sodium extension, and https. Plain.htmlpages are not changed. - Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow and other platforms: there is no connector. Paste the tracker code from Install guide and press Check installation. For changes, SEOmise gives you steps for your platform and checks the result on your live site.
