How does the connector update itself, and what do check-ins and "Paused by SEOmise" mean?
Short answerConnectors check in with SEOmise twice a day and install new versions by themselves where the site allows it. The Site connector page shows each site's version, update setting, last update and pulse. A site SEOmise has blocked refuses commands until it is unblocked.
Check-ins
Twice a day each connector tells SEOmise its version, the site's address and its software versions. No visitor data is sent.
- WordPress: SEOmise → Settings → Check for updates now checks in straight away.
- Laravel:
seomise:checkin, scheduled twice a day inroutes/console.phpas the install guide shows. Runphp artisan seomise:checkinto check in now. - PHP file: checks in twice a day, after a page has been sent.
The site pulse
Paired WordPress and Laravel sites also send a pulse every five minutes. The Site connector page shows it as Beating, Late (no pulse for 15 minutes), Silent (no pulse for 45 minutes) or Waiting for the first pulse.
- Laravel's pulse needs Laravel's scheduler to run every minute.
- On WordPress, "Scheduled tasks are late" means the site may need a real cron job.
- The PHP file and sites without a connector do not send a pulse. Website watch checks those sites from outside.
Updates
New versions are offered to the site. On WordPress they show on the Plugins screen like any plugin update, and the plugin's Settings tab says which version is available. A version SEOmise pushes installs straight away; a copy of the old version is kept and put back if the site stops loading.
On the Site connector page, Updates shows one of these:
- Auto-updates on: nothing to do.
- Auto-updates off on this site: someone switched them off on the WordPress Plugins screen. SEOmise keeps that choice. To get new versions by themselves again, use Turn on automatic updates on the plugin's Settings tab.
- Updates blocked on this site: WordPress or the host does not allow background updates. Update by hand.
- Manual updates: a Laravel site set to update by hand. Run
php artisan seomise:update. - Unknown until updated once: an older connector. Update it once by hand (WordPress → Plugins → update now,
php artisan seomise:updateon Laravel, or upload the new PHP file). From then on it updates itself.
If WordPress asks for FTP details to update plugins, add define('FS_METHOD', 'direct'); to wp-config.php, or upload new versions by hand. When the PHP file cannot replace itself, Download the new file appears; upload it over the old one. If you got the file from Speed fixes, download it there again so your speed settings stay in it.
"Paused by SEOmise" or "blocked"
SEOmise staff can block a site. It then refuses SEOmise's commands, and SEOmise sends it nothing, until it is unblocked. The workspace owners get an e-mail with the reason. Contact support to sort it out. Once unblocked, the connector works again after its next check-in.
On WordPress, Subscription paused means the subscription is not active. Visits are not counted and no changes are made until it is sorted out under Billing.
